【Industrial Press Publishing Co.】Elis Wins Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation's "Chairman's Award" for Outstanding Invention

2024/12/12

Elis Co., Ltd. is a member of Tsubame Holdings, Inc. based in Okayama, Japan, which engages in natural energy and energy-saving solutions. Together with Nagasaki University, Elis jointly developed a micro-hydroelectric power generation system which was awarded the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation's 2024 "Chairman's Award." The system (WaterWeco®) is described as an “Economical Small Hydro Power Generation System with Automatic Load Following Operation,” and Elis' President Jun Kuwahara and Assistant Professor Soichi Sasaki of Nagasaki University's Graduate School of Engineering were recognized for its development.

The "Chairman's Award" aims to encourage and foster inventions in each region of Japan and contribute to the advancement of science and technology and the promotion of local industry. The award is given in eight regions of Japan to recognize the achievements of those who have created outstanding inventions, devices, and designs; those who have made efforts to commercialize these inventions; and those who have guided and encouraged the development of inventions in their respective regions.

The award-winning small-scale hydroelectric power generation system WaterWeco® is installed in small rivers and irrigation canals scattered throughout Japan and uses water flow to generate electricity. The main feature of this system is that it can generate power efficiently and stably even in environments with low drop-offs and low flow rates, thanks to its patented water turbine design and mechanism.

Elis has been involved in small-scale hydroelectric power generation since 2007 and has been building up a track record through a series of feasibility studies and installations. Currently, in addition to projects in Japan, the company is applying for patents in countries around the world with an eye on the global market.
